MATCH PREVIEW | Rhinos and Demons clash for Cup semi final spot

A place in the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup semi finals is at stake for either Leeds Rhinos or Cardiff Demons this Saturday as the two clubs clash at AMT Headingley as part of a double header, kick off 3.15pm.

After topping Group B with wins over Leigh and London, Lois Forsell's Leeds side look to continue their unbeaten form at this stage of a Cup campaign, whilst Cardiff are out to provide a potential shock on their first competitive trip to Leeds.

Here's your match preview:

Opposition

A second National Championship side takes on the two-time Cup-winning Rhinos in as many weeks as Cardiff Demons look to make their first appearance in the final four of the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup.

The two-time Super League South Champions had impressed alongside London Broncos as the two clubs led the way for Women's Rugby League in the south. Their form earned both clubs' spots in the Cup competition, with the Demons first appearing in 2023 as they beat Featherstone Rovers to qualify for the quarter finals behind table toppers Wigan, later losing out to York Valkyrie 54-0 as Lindsay Anfield's side 54-0 in a one-sided affair.

The last two seasons have seen the Demons make a habit of reaching the last eight of the Cup competition, with Wigan stopping Cardiff's progress on each occasion. The group stages of 2024 saw the Demons beat Super League outfit Barrow Raiders 22-16 as well as Salford Red Devils 58-0 triumph as the club were drawn against the Warriors for the first time, before last year saw Cardiff lose out to the eventual Cup champions in a 96-0 final score. The 2026 campaign kicked off with a high-scoring 76-6 loss to Wigan for a third straight year, but a more successful 24-12 win over Featherstone saw two tries from Zoe Heeley as well as tries from Leanne Burnell, Mary-Ann Gittens and Frances Layton ensure Cardiff were in the quarter finals.

Away from the Cup, Ian Newbury's side are touted for a strong season as part of the expanded National Championship competition. After falling short of the promotion Grand Final at the end of 2025, the side are hoping an already strong Cup campaign can boost them into a strong season ahead as they fight for potential promotion again.
